Learn the principles of yoga in a modified program that can be successfully practiced by people who are chronically ill, limited in mobility, injured and post-operative. Enjoy the benefits of an appropriate yoga practice. The Recovery Yoga Program begins with Private Yoga sessions, and continues with small group classes.
- Recovery Yoga can help a person who suffers from chronic pain, old injuries, or even someone who just wants to learn to relax.
- Stress, whether physical, emotional or mental-any stress even if you had fun getting it, results in the contraction of soft tissue. Yoga, when practiced appropriately, can help the fascia stretch and loosen so the body can be in better alignment, allowing for less vital energy to be used in basic daily activities.
- Working one-on-one and in small groups of people going at their own pace, in Recovery Yoga we discover how each pose can be done at an individual level. The intention is to provide a space for people to explore their range of movement and make sure they have a good understanding of how to do yoga so they get the benefits that yoga provides and don't get hurt doing it.
- Anyone can do yoga. Yoga is not a goal-oriented activity but rather a movement towards union and balance. Yoga as a form of exercise is very popular at the moment and many people are going to classes looking to feel better only to feel afterwards like yoga is not right for them. Yoga is an excellent stress-reducing activity that enhances all of the body's systems, promoting health and a general feeling of well-being. Recovery Yoga sessions are led by Eileen Scully and Nathalie Chartier.
- New Session Beginning for both Level 1 and Level 2 the first week of April, 2008. Please call (613) 724-4747 to register.
Creating Harmony through Mindfulness
This modified program is appropriate for those who are chronically ill, limited in mobility, or healing from treatment or injury. This class encourages students to develop a yoga practice and receive assistance in modifying movement with the use of props to both support and challenge flexibility. Class size is kept small to allow personal attention to be given to each student.
This 8-week journey will encourage students to explore practices of mindfulness through breath, mind and body. Mindfulness is having the ability to be as present as possible to what is in the spirit of acceptance. Acceptance allows us to be at peace with whatever we are experiencing in the present moment- holding these experiences in a loving and compassionate way, knowing that life is continually changing. As we deepen in mindfulness and acceptance, what arises is a sense of harmony and peace with all that life brings us, and a desire and intent to continue to evolve and grow toward deeper fulfillment, health and well-being. **PLEASE NOTE that pre-registration is required for this class**
